Blog Post 1

In the article, “One-Child Policy Is One Big Problem for China” published from Newsweek.com.  The following quote by the author Susan Scutti, sums up the article by saying “Dealing with the profound and far-reaching devastation caused by the policy, however, will take many years to fix.” China has had a one child policy for 35 years. In 2013, they made it so you can have 2 children as long as both parents were single children. The one child policy created a problem, it made it so that there are more men than women in China. This gender imbalance has caused many issues for example, there are many people in the world and in China that are angry at the methods they are using to enforce the one child policy. Another problem China has is that most of the families are trying to have boys and not girls so they end up killing the girls, even after birth. The problem with having so many unmarried men is that the rate of depression, violence and sex trafficking has gone up.

I was surprised that many children were left to starve to death in the streets. I did not know this because I thought they would just get abortions and not kill them after they were born. I think it was a bad thing to have this policy because it has caused many problems and I hope they find a solution soon. The friends that I have in China said that the policy wasn't a big deal. I was surprised by this. I thought that they would say more things about the situation, but my friend didn't seem to care. Also, the families in China should be able to have as many children as they want. Something I found interesting is that there was thirty two million less girls than boys that are under the age age of twenty.I wondered how hard it might seem to be a girl in China?

  1. I agree. Most girls I'm sure feel like they're not as important as the guys. When they try and modify the policy to make it fit more to society, they end up making it worse. This isn't something that can be fixed. That's why I think they should remove the policy completely. Maybe then things would get better.

  3. I liked how you talked about your friend from China. She knows a lot from China. I liked how you asked her how she felt aboutall the people in China and the one child policy. I wonder how she would react to all of the baby killings in China. If I was her i would be extremely sad about it all.
